Multimedia artists are quite inspiring, and they help us believe that we can achieve our many goals as they have. New York Art Life is committing to bringing fresh artists’ stories to our audience and helping them discover their passion for art like our featured artists. Today, we will be speaking to multimedia artist Alicia Assaad. We are excited to speak about her regarding her current projects, her upcoming visions, and elements of success in New York City.
NY Art Life: Thank you for sitting with us for this interview, we are thrilled to have you and we know our audience is too.
Alicia Assaad: Thank you, I’m quite excited to speak with you too. I can’t wait to share my projects with your amazing, art-loving readers.
NY Art Life: To begin, I would like to mention your work across different mediums of the art field. It is extremely empowering to see you divide your narrative between different dimensions and skill sets. As I understand you are a videographer, a costume designer, and a producer.
Alicia Assaad: Thank you so much, and that is correct. I have always had a passion for film and fashion, and I’m very excited to see how these two artistic fields have begun merging more and more throughout the years. This gives me the opportunity to mesh my experiences and background in film and production with my skills as a costume designer. I’ve brought many joint ideas like this to life.
NY Art Life: Wow, that is fascinating. Is there anything you cannot do?
Alicia Assaad: (giggles) You are very kind.
NY Art Life: I’m very excited about the work you have been doing here in New York City with SIRXN Productions. It is a guarantee to all multimedia artists who wish to turn their interests into passions that it is indeed possible, even here in New York City, one of the most artist-dense cities in the world. I know you have several roles in the company, such as videography, costume design, and production. Please tell us about your roles as a videographer, is it what most people think it is?

Alicia Assaad: I agree that it is a tight city for artists, there is an emerging artist that rises to the top every day here. I’ve been working with SIRXN Productions on a number of projects, and I’m currently the head of 16 MM videography. My favorite thing about being the head of the department is that we are able to conduct full productions working with 16mm Bolex film cameras which results in a beautiful & unique outcome every time.
NY Art Life: Oh, incredible! That is quite rare, isn’t it?
Alicia Assaad: Yes, it definitely is. In fact, it is one of the most niche areas of videography, but I can predict it will slowly inject itself into more and more projects as artists begin seeing the beauty of This film format. In fact, Kodak has been trying hard to get more artists and videographers to work with 16mm film.
NY Art Life: Now that is quite interesting. Why do you think that is so?
Alicia Assaad: Once again people will see how much art is embedded in this type of camera and how much it changes the final result. One thing I am very interested in is that it gives me, the videographer a beautiful effect of my perspective. It’s refreshing to see how different people use this type of film to tell your story and how different all the outcomes are.
NY Art Life: that is true I’m very interested to know your perspective. Now I know that with SIRXN productions you’re doing very interesting work including the products that will be coming out very soon. I know that the project you’re working on with SIRXN productions at the moment is called Who Has Your Time and it’s a feature film how exciting is it working on this project?
Alicia Assaad: It is definitely so exciting, and I cannot wait to share with the world what we’ve been making. It’s such a strong story and I’m so happy to be on the storytelling side. It’s just so important and essential to be telling the stories of people who have always been so underrepresented. I feel it is our duty, the storytellers to be prioritizing these stories and it’s beautiful how artistic this project is.
NY Art Life: I’m definitely so excited and I totally know it’s going to be one of the most artistically gorgeous projects. You have so many different skills you also make costumes and shoot fashion editorials with this production company. What do you think about people who wish to achieve your success as a multimedia artist, what advice do you have for them?
Alicia Assaad: I definitely encourage them to follow their interests and to never give up because your interests can become passions and you can create careers out of every single passion that you have. That is essentially what a multimedia artist is and if you have enough fire inside you to ignite the interest in each career field then you will definitely succeed with hard work.
NY Art Life: That is a great solid device thank you so much. Well, I know you’re very busy with certain production I also know that you have many many projects that you’re working on personally.
Alicia Assaad: Yes and I just cannot wait to share with everyone what I’ve been working on. This is why I’m so grateful to be a multimedia artist because I can divide my storytelling and narrative into different mediums.
NY Art Life: That is true. I know that you are wrapping up the publication of your first magazine and it’s called 7BB magazine. I want you to tell me about that and what’s your mission?
Alicia Assaad: Oh yes I’m truly happy about this! This is a very significant part of my work: Volume 2 of the first edition of 7BB Magazine will be published in June and the whole mission is to empower Middle Eastern women through media intervention and changing the ways that representation of this group usually are brought to life. I hope to revive the perspectives of these women and for 7BB to be a modern outlet for them in fashion, film, and culture.

NY Art Life : That is amazing I cannot wait either; congratulations! Shall we end on this note?
Alicia Assaad: Yes thank you so much.
