Fans of the long-running Fast & Furious saga have something huge to look forward to: the next — and reportedly final — installment in the blockbuster franchise now has an official title and release date. Universal Pictures and franchise star Vin Diesel have confirmed that the film will be called Fast Forever and will hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
The announcement comes after years of anticipation and speculation. The latest mainline entry, Fast X, premiered in 2023, and initial plans for a 2025 or 2026 follow-up were delayed as the creative team refined the story and logistics around such a massive franchise finale.
A Legacy Built Over Nearly Three Decades
Since its debut in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious, the franchise has become one of Universal’s most enduring and profitable properties, grossing more than $7 billion worldwide through its blend of high-octane action, family-centered storytelling, and globe-spanning set pieces.
Vin Diesel, who has starred as Dominic Toretto throughout the series, shared the announcement on Instagram with a nostalgic photo of himself alongside the late Paul Walker, who played Brian O’Conner in the franchise’s earlier films. Diesel wrote, “No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts Forever.”
Walker tragically died in 2013 during production on Furious 7, and the film’s remaining scenes were completed using previously filmed footage and stand-ins, including Walker’s brothers.
What Fans Can Expect
Details about the plot, full cast, and creative team behind Fast Forever have not yet been revealed, but the movie is expected to bring the core storyline — one that has blended street racing with international action over more than two dozen years — to a climactic conclusion.
Vin Diesel and Universal have previously hinted that the final film would return to the franchise’s roots: sleek cars, furious races, and themes of loyalty and found family. Longer gaps between entries have fueled speculation that the focus will be both a tribute to long-time fans and a memorable cinematic finale.
As anticipation builds, Fast Forever represents not only a new chapter in a beloved series but arguably a cultural milestone in Hollywood’s landscape of action cinema — a franchise crafted around speed, spectacle, and the idea that family is everything.
