New York Art Life is committed to introducing new artists that are creating new opportunities in the fields of the arts. It has become a very vast field in that artists have expanded their abilities and found new openings in technology. Some artists have become increasingly active on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, and they have been able to reach a broader audience for what they want to share. But it takes a lot of research and understanding to strategically reach audiences and to grow a following. Today, we will be speaking to a very avid individual who has made it in the game, creating new ways to connect to her audience. Her name is Michi Kwan, and she is a marketing specialist, brand consultant, and content creator.
NY Art Life: Thank you for sitting down to speak to us today. It is such a pleasure to know more about what you do.
Michi Kwan: The pleasure is mine! I’d love to share my work with you.
NY Art Life: First off, I’d like to say I’m very impressed with your impact on social media and the things you do to reach intended audiences. It is a very demanding time to be a marketing specialist, as almost everything receives its audience virtually now. I know that you have coached and consulted many artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs to connect to their viewers through their passion successfully, which is the goal for many, many artists. You have also been the founder and brand consultant of a lifestyle consultancy business called Unspoken Travel, which has its own website, which is where it gets most of its audience. What is it like to promote and create a platform for others who wish to be working in their passion and their creative field?
Michi Kwan: It’s very satisfying to see others stay in their creative fields. It is very hard to work in a specific career field and to be an artist at the same time, but with social media and the power of growing a business or an artistic vision, artists and creatives don’t need to do that anymore. They have been able to find ways to grow their work and connect with so many people that want to follow their journey. But it does not happen overnight, and I wouldn’t call it easy either. There are specific techniques and methods in marketing that can define one’s success in trying to build a career out of their art. Consistently trying these methods will align with a platform’s algorithm, which will bring more eyes on the work of the creator. But with hard work and continuous publications, I’ve seen many clients grow and become successful creatives. It’s what I love most about what I do.
NY Art Life: That is amazing. You are also a Senior Merchant Success Manager at Shopify, as well as a marketing specialist there. You have grown and booked so many clients and customers and linked different branches of work together. You have a history of working successfully for different companies by targeting audiences and consulting teams. For example, you were a manager of consulting at Capgemini Invent too. As far as I know, you have led multiple 3-5 unit consultant teams, directly providing recommendations to regionals and global CEOs, CFOs, etc. Tell us about working on such large-scale projects and how you approach them?

Michi Kwan: It is very demanding. There are long-term goals that must be achieved, and that is where my experience is helpful. I use the methods and successful techniques for growing their audience, but I also give them insight on how to get results on the short-term goals too. It is also very interesting to work with such creatives and individuals and it drives me to work more. Some of my clients included PepsiCo Global, and Richemont (Cartier, Van Cleef, IWC, etc). This achievement pushed me to receive the highest feedback rank for an individual from the Director and Sponsor for exceeding project delivery expectations.
NY Art Life: That is incredible. No doubt, you are amazing, and you deserve this recognition. Speaking of creating content and coaching, you have also been very active on Instagram and Tiktok, and you share so much about creating content, coaching, and also promoting a healthy lifestyle and healing. Tell us more about that journey and how it relates to these platforms?
Michi Kwan: Yes! I am very interested in sharing my ideas and techniques for becoming successful as a creator. Social media and the platforms we use nowadays are very important for reaching goals because that is how we meet individuals and even find projects. It is, without doubt, the leading way to grow and make a career from your creative work. But it is also important to understand that these platforms are only a part of our lives, whether we think of our career or how we spend our time looking for inspiration, ideas, and motivation not only for work but also for our daily lives as well. A lot of what we believe is dictated by what we find on the internet because it is the fastest way to receive information, and it has led to people becoming more aware. So I believe that healing and finding inner peace can also be promoted on these platforms and it makes my audience encouraged to seek that as well.
NY Art Life: That is incredible. I think that is significant and I love that you’re doing that. To finish this interview, tell us what you love most about being creative in New York City.
Michi Kwan: Oh I think New York City is the greatest place to be. There are so many people to connect with, and you can never go wrong getting to know more and more people. There is just so much to explore, and everyday people come up with new, incredible ideas. It is a constant inspiration just to be here. You continually get lost in its chaotic nature, and when you find yourself, you realize you have something more in your creative mind.
NY Art Life: so soon we will have you back with us in our studios?
Michi Kwan: Ahahha, sure guys, count on it. In the meantime, let’s enjoy spring.
